Captain Marvel Review( No Spoilers)

Captain. Flerken. Marvel. What. A. Movie.

Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel unravels a ton of mysteries surrounding this time period which until now wasn't that talked about. It serves as a nostalgic trip down to the days surrounding the technological boom with a few punches such as 'it's loading' and vintage pinball machines.

Director: Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck

Cast: Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law,  Clark Gregg

Higher. Further. Faster.

Captain Marvel joins a long list of movies under the Marvel Cinematic Universe which once again has been successful in mesmerising the audience. The last movie to be released before Avengers: Endgame did not fail to hit its mark.
Brie Larson who portrays the famed Captain Marvel ( a.k.a Vers/ Carol Denvers/Mar-Vell) has done an amazing job by portraying the strong character. She has aced the action sequences and throughout the movie, her story of self-discovery is conveyed in a beautiful and relatable manner.
Samuel L. Jackson plays a Young Shield agent, way before he was made the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and later the Director of the Avenger's Initiative. He plays the 'good cop' and we get an insight into him becoming the mysterious one-eyed cloaked figure that he later becomes.
Jude Law portrays the character of Yon- Rogg and honestly, I think, the character should have had a more complex arc and he didn't seem like a bad guy as much as a confused one.
Clark Gregg returned once again as our young ( And very much alive) Phil Coulson. Just like Fury, he is shown as a recent recruit for S.H.I.E.L.D. We also discover the beginning of his character arc in this movie where he explicitly disobeys/ lies his way out of orders just because his gut tells him to do otherwise.
The screenplay of the movie is well thought out with witty jokes and simple punches which seem like a much-needed break from the hard-hitting, climatic, good guy dialogues( Looking at you Cap'n). The music of this movie blends in well with the storyline and the characters alike.
The parts of the movie that I really liked were that it is a light-hearted action movie which talks about the strength of being human and what happens if you never give up. It also featured an acknowledgement to Guardians of the Galaxy by using similar soundtracks when the set up is in outer space. Goose adds a simple yet satisfying twist of humour to the tale which takes the movie to a whole new level.
The only let downs for me in this movie were the absence of a strong villain because Captain Marvel was clearly overpowered and her real 'battle' was with her own self. Also, I would've loved to see more of Phil Coulson on screen because he still kind of served as a cameo even in this movie
Overall, Captain Marvel is a fun, action-packed adventure which is definitely a must watch this weekend. I would give this movie a 4.5/5 for the performances of Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, the soundtracks of the movie and the overall story.

( If you need another reason to watch this movie, We find out what happened to Nick Fury's eye is all I can say without going into spoiler territory. Also, the post credits are to die for)
